That’s sad to see, but completely understandable. Basically, he’s not a sociopath, and people in his role are treated like sociopaths. I can definitely see how that would wear you down a lot. I hope he can stay strong through whatever hate he might receive over this, and I honestly wish him well. He and I see eye to eye on a lot of things, so I’ve always valued his direction in the fediverse.
Being in charge of a social media project is, turns out, quite the stressful endeavour, and I don’t have the right personality for it. I think I need not elaborate that the passion so many feel for social media does not always manifest in healthy ways. You are to be compared with tech billionaires, with their immense wealth and layered support systems, but with none of the money or resources.
Context.
While it might be a tough decision, I wholeheartedly welcome it.
Community-driven projects should be managed by the community, and I fully trust the Mastodon nonprofit to lead this part of the Fediverse into the future.
Good luck on this new stage, Eugen. And congratulations to all Mastodon users.
Sounds like a good bloke. He tried his best and it’s very appreciated. Dealing with the Twitter escapees and their demands to have a second twitter only opensource can be extremely taxing, I imagine.
Good luck to Eugen.
