One thing I never hear anyone say, but…. It just blows my mind that they could separate a city with a wall. I’m sure soldiers with guns were a big part of it, but still. It just seems so unrealistic.
Soldiers on watchtowers with machineguns, a wall, and a nice, empty kill-zone in-between the two halves of the city.
Also, West Berlin was surrounded by East Germany, entirely.
Much easier to isolate in that context.
