Could be in any context. I do it a little on UFC fights but that’s a relatively low amount and I can afford I
to lose any time I do. It seems like it’s becoming a really wide spread problem though, at least in the US. At the same time I don’t see why it should be illegal. Granted I also don’t think any drug should be illegal.
My pixel 7 is shitting the bed and I am considering upgrading and just installing graphene immediately on the new phone as part of my degoogling journey.
My grocery bill is steadily climbing and I am not sure what to do. I make too much for SNAP. Any tips or tricks? It’s just me in my household, so would buying in bulk be worth it?
Cuz the comments throught Lemmy/Piefed seems to indicate that literally every user on here is a FOSS/Dencentralization Purist and has 100% abandoned mainstream platforms.
I might be a little too claustrophobic to go on a ride myself, although I have never tried. And I feel immense respect towards people that do serve onboard submarines. With all my claustrophobia, I have this positive prejudice that it must be amazingly cosy to sleep onboard: feeling slight motions as the submarine moves, hearing the engine hum, having a “sleepover” with people you trust with your life…
Occasionally i hear the phrase “there is no morality outside of human society”. I believe, what is meant by it, is that you cannot say whether something is morally right or wrong in nature, if it isn’t part of human society.
I have access to a small finished rooftop and i want to see if you can think of any use for it. It’s hard to get to because you have to go out a window then up a fire escape. And there’s a couple of nice places to sit right outside my building, so i never wind up going to the roof.
I’m not trying to troll, I’m genuinely curious. Thinking about deer specifically, it doesn’t seem like visual camouflage would really help much when hunting them. Deer sense predators by sensitive hearing (big ears) and smell (long snout). Their eyes are on the sides of their head, so they detect motion rather than high-resolution.
What kind of new world order? In short - own anything, be happy (including privacy, freedom of choice, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, decent work, financial freedom, and so on)
Apologies if this has been asked to death already and i haven’t seen it. I’m also not trying to be too much of a downer but it’s kind of unprecedented.
Every time I search something like “Why is X bad?” on reddit or other forums, the majority of comments is always people arguing the exact opposite. This has been my experience countless times over the years. Recently I started searching the opposite of what I want to know, like “Why is X good?”, and it works flawlessly.
Not sure how else to title. So basically I currently shop in various stores for work here in a major city in the Northeast US and am seeing huge price increases when stores are re-stocking as well as going through their weekly price cycles for the last 2 weeks.
It feels like all the joy I used to feel from being an enthusiast has been completely voided as computing has become the modern vector for fascism and surveillance. I find myself recoiling from all online spaces, even independent and open source ones that I’d loved and supported in the past.
I know someone is gonna be like: You can’t build a nuke with only the information, the hard part is getting the [uranium/plutonium (or whatever its calledl]!
Like when you set it to English in ya profile Settings you get this error message: “Warning: If you deselect Undetermined, you will not see most content.”.
I love all kinds of bread but personally my favorite is a nice seeded rye bread, and my favorite context for it is a good reuben sandwich, heavy on the kraut. We were chatting about it at work so I was curious what the lemmings think.
Samsung has great hardware, but their version of android is getting more and more bloated. And android itself is moving in a direction reminiscent of how I felt about Windows after win7.
In life we all have unwritten rules like how far behind someone you stand while you are in line or the “nod of recognition” you give someone if you make eye contact while they are walking toward you.
Include a basic definition of what you consider trolling. Because people seem to deem a huge variety of things trolling. Silly comments are fine but no direct personal insults.
I heard about Lemmy from Mental Outlaw and it caught my interest. The Reddit API situation made me finally decide to drop Reddit and make an account on lemmy.world. I haven’t turned back since.
In the Lord of the Rings fandom there’s a persistent debate whether balrogs, or Durin’s Bane specifically, have wings. The text in Fellowship is ambiguous whether what it is describing are literal wings or something else wing-like.
Look at trending searches for the week and post the ones you think would be useful on Lemmy for the community to answer and make available for people who are asking about them.
Feel like I’m alone in the world sometimes. I keep seeing ads and videos and things for wives whose husbands are emotionally unavailable or checked out or whatever. But I’m the husband and she is the checked out one or unavailable one. What is there for people like me or situations like mine? Is our situation so abnormal that no one cares? So atypical that there is no help for me or for us? Is anything out there targeted towards me and mine or am I just screwed? Am I alone in this shit?
Say you were a guardian or parent and get to decide when a child can get a phone or use a computer and get internet with it. If you wish you can also install software and change router settings to what you see fit.
My big one is that they need to stop asking why I applied for their company. The real answer is I want a new job, and I blasted out a hundred applications. I didn’t choose your company specifically.
A lot of people kiss their pets or non-human animals in general. I find that very weird. I understand that it is a sign of affection but it seems so off. One reason is that I doubt whether animals really understand this. Also it seems to be on a level of intimacy to me that I find weird sharing with a pet. Not necessarily romantically or sexually (that would be even more weird and wrong and probably illegal). But it is still “more”. I am not sure whether I can really explain why exactly I find that weird.
I see it everywhere. At first I thought these people were just paranoid, afraid that people would interpret a naked clothesline as “my owner doesn’t even use me. Take me!”. But maybe it’s a trend? I don’t know.
I vote for Slippy Toad. He tries to help but ends up getting in the way more often than not. But you can’t really get mad at him because he’s doing his best.
Funny how my brain suddenly fears death, when I’ve been feeling kinda suicidal… but all the sudden, now my brain has decreed: “wait, fuck, actually death is bad, dont wanna die yet… aaaahhhh”
I’m not hear to talk about Palestine, Hezbollah, or Iran. I mean in general, objectively, it’s getting thrown around so much, for reasons that do not seem antisemetic in nature.
I’m a healthy outdoorsy athletic woman, never touched drugs or alcohol or junk food, a lifestyle which is intentional & ESSENTIAL criteria I work hard for.
Me, I have a disease which is kinda wiping out my connective tissue over time, which includes those lovely soft discs in my spine, dammit. Biggest current issue with that is that it’s getting harder and harder to sit at my desk for more than ~15min without lower back pain ratcheting up…
Hey guys.
Im trying to fully move to lemmy.
Unfortunately many subreddits I was using - are not represented on lemmy. So I figured I would just sync content from reddit for those communities - so I scripted auto-reposter of top most popular reddit posts to lemmy.
Lets say you wanted to reach North Sentinel Island undetected by them, and then try to somehow integrate into their community. How would you go about it? Be creative.
OK, so a lot of people have a recurring dream where you have to go back to high school because you missed a graduation requirement, even though you’re a grown-ass adult. But I’m curious if anyone knows what would actually happen in this scenario. Would they wave it off, or would you need to take a college class, or get your GED (or equivalent)? Any educators out there to enlighten us?
Generations are said to have about the same Zeitgeist and experiences growing up, but honestly, the Zeitgeist culture from 1998 to 2008 is way different than from 2008 onwards. Early and late gen z also behaves completely different overall. Its not a matter of age and maturety.
I’ve heard a lot of Gen Z people confuse dystopian and utopian. Usually I don’t care about “correct” language at all, I’d even argue languages that change are alive and changes are often invisible to those with rigid or discriminatory thinking. In this case the confusion seems almost deliberate or directional as in having an origin in some media where it is confused heavily though.
I got this email from my ISP in Germany. I don’t know what to do about it, or where to ask on Lemmy (all the tech communities seem to be about news and info, not to ask any questions)
